Built in 1910, The Griffin Hotel was once THE place to stay when traveling to or through Griffin. The Chamber of Commerce office was in the hotel, and a Tuesday Luncheon Club met in the hotel’s dining/ball room. Though the actual hotel closed in the late 1970’s, it has not lost its reputation among the locals. It is even rumored to have a tunnel leading from a former brothel to the hotel basement.

There have been numerous unexplained experiences and sightings over the last few decades, including young children on the 4th floor, items that seem to disappear and reappear out of no where, and hearing glasses clinking, laughing, and music coming from the once glorious ballroom.
Groups of paranormal investigators have been invited to the hotel in search of proof, but few have actually made it through the night. The basement, which holds the original water heater, and floods everytime it rains, used to hold underground fights in a large pit. There are even rumors that men would wrestle bears in the pit.

The hotel is opening to the public for the once again as Sinister Suites haunted house. Keeping the original architecture of the building, guests can now walk through all 5 floors, including over 15 themed guest rooms, and a completely repurposed penthouse suite. Email Haunt Owner

On the very top floor there is a little hallway with very fast strobing lights the guy in front of me was so scared because we heard a very loud BANG and there was a hole in the wall where a painting once was.But the guy in front of me almost fell out of the little window that was in that hallway.(btw, there are three windows so you don't know which painting it was.

  • Email Verified Scared the hell out of me

I have been involved in the haunt industry for more than six years under various capacities. As a result, I "know" how these things work. I know about how you find your actors, what it takes to set things up logistically, etc. So I went into this one underneath a more clinical view than a member of the public waiting to see if I could be scared. Big mistake. They "got" me at least six times, twice when I knew it was coming (having been involved in creating such locations, including working as a 'scareactor', I could predict them...). EVEN WHEN I KNEW IT WAS COMING I WAS STILL SCARED. That is a sign of a professional haunt. The actors did not break character and I went through twice. I did not try to take them off of their game, nor did I try to influence anyone within my group the first or second time. The second time we had "Charlie" who was scared the entire time and whom at the end admitted that it was "terrifying". Poor Charlie. Poor me...I was the one who ended up right behind him having him grasp my shirt for support and leading me like a dog on a leash! It was worth the $40 (two times through consecutive, $20 each time, Halloween night 10-31-16). And I loved how several of the actors recognized me from going through the first time and tried to "sic" themselves on me or, better yet, their co-stars onto me, especially within the semi-confined spaces. The wait was a little long but when you have to reset so often and make sure your actors are all doing okay (bathroom breaks, water, etc.) plus only a few guides available, with a 15-20 minute "tour", the wait was worth it. Plus the crowd was strong in number, so that was a factor as well. I hadn't been through in 2015 and remembered some of 2014 when I had last visited. I am already mentally planning to return in 2016, even as our own haunt in the same geographic area prepares for our wrap party and beginning plans for our own location in 2017! Thanks guys! You did it! You scared the hell out of me!

  • Better last year

A lot of dead space where nothing happens. Not enough actors for the large space. Some of the actors just stand there and fo nothing.
