The source of the battlefield's hauntings comes from The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, which was fought from June 18th-July 2nd, 1864. It has been reported that ghostly soldiers wander around the grounds and that cannons and gunshots can be heard. Ghost deer have also been reported, running towards the witness but then vanishing when they get close. The smell of blood and gunpowder are also described by witnesses.

I was walking when there was deadly silence. All of a sudden I see tons and tons of soldiers marching across the field. I heard marching but when I looked at their feet, they weren't on the ground! They were at least 3-4 inches off the ground.
