The original lighthouse in this area was built in 1736, but after shore erosion and storms caused the demise of not only it but the first three lighthouses here, the current and fourth structure was built. People have witnessed spirits and heard unexplained whistling and other eerie sounds. Some spirits have been seen wearing lightkeepers' clothing and another, that of a 5 year old girl, warns visitors not to go up the lighthouse steps any further.
